WANA (May 08) – The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the United Kingdom has announced that Iranian Ambassador Seyed Ali Mousavi met with Hamish Falconer, the UK’s Deputy Foreign Secretary for the Middle East and North Africa and discussed issues such as arrested Iranian national in the UK.

 

In a statement posted on the embassy’s official account on the social media platform X, the Iranian mission reported that the two officials exchanged views on a range of bilateral and international issues, including the ongoing indirect talks between Iran and the United States.

 

The statement noted that both sides reaffirmed their commitment to international legal principles, particularly the principle of non-interference in each other’s internal affairs. Mutual respect for national sovereignty and security was also emphasized.

 

Addressing the recent arrests of several Iranian nationals in the UK, Ambassador Mousavi stressed the importance of ensuring their legal rights and due process. In response, Mr. Falconer reportedly provided assurances regarding the matter.

 

The statement concluded by highlighting that both parties agreed that diplomacy and dialogue remain the most constructive path forward for addressing challenges and resolving differences.

 

The Arrest Background of Iranian Citizens Arrested in the UK

London police have announced the arrest of seven Iranian nationals suspected of involvement in terrorism-related offenses during two separate operations.

 

According to a statement by the Metropolitan Police, the arrests took place in London, Swindon, and Greater Manchester and are linked to “a suspected plot to target a specific location.”

 

In total, eight men—seven of whom are Iranian nationals—were arrested on suspicion of preparing for a terrorist act. They are between the ages of 29 and 46 and remain in custody. The nationality of one of the suspects is still under investigation, according to counterterrorism police.
